Mother’s Day Gifts for a First Time Mom

This post is sponsored by Kohl’s. I was paid for this post and received the included jewelry as compensation.

Becoming a mom for the first time is one of those rare, blessed events that will forever change you. Now, not in the exact moment you become a mom (which we can all agree!) but as you transition into motherhood. Your life is no longer just for you. You can no longer spend a Sunday afternoon laying in bed, enjoy fancy dinners without your child making herself known to the restaurant, or heck even take a bath in peace. Without a doubt, my little girl can be playing with her toys in the other room and if she even hears the bath water running, I find her in my bathroom, within 30 seconds, looking at me and says, “Mama up up up up.”

It’s true when they say the days are long, but the years are short. My tiny infant is now a full-blown toddler, with a mind (and mouth) of her own. In today’s blog post, I’m partnering with Kohl’s for Mother’s Day and sharing 15 little things I’ve learned over the past year and half.

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, y’all know I love Kohl’s and the amazing selection they offer. I check my emails daily because they’re always having an amazing sale and I can add my Kohl’s cash on top of the amazing discounts. They have a jewelry selection and what I love is that you can easily find an item from a gift for a mommy to be to a grandmother. I think there is a big misconception that if you give a gift of designer jewelry there is only one price point, but Kohl’s fine jewelry selection has a range for the women you may be shopping for.

If you know me, you know I love simple jewelry. You’ll hardly ever find me wearing brightly colored necklaces or earrings, so when I came across this “Mother Daughter Friends” Disc Necklace, I thought it was perfect to add into my daily rotation. I love that the two hearts can symbol either multiple children, or a mother and child bond.

Both the Diamond Fascination 10k Gold Hoop Earrings (on sale for $66.93 – regularly $175.00) and the PRIMROSE Sterling Silver Cubic Zirconia Halo Stud Earrings (on sale for $15.30 – regularly $45.00) are perfect and timeless. I loved them both because my little girl likes to pull on everything, so the stud and small hoop design makes her want to touch, but not pull. Both of these items are under $75. Whether your shopping for you’re a new mom, your mother, or your husband [or boyfriend’s] mom, this is a perfect option because these can both be worn with many different styles.

If you’re into mixing metals, I love both of these options! The Tri Tone 14k Gold Triple Heart Necklace (on sale for $135.00 – regularly $375.00) could symbolize multiple kids or multiple generations. The Tri Tone 10k Gold Bead & Bar Layered Necklace (on sale for $144.00 – regularly $400.00) would be perfect for a more modern mom.

Here are the important dates to know about the sale:
1. 4/11 – 4/20: 55-60% off Fine Jewelry only in select styles.
2. 4/24 – 4/28: 70-75% off fine jewelry in select styles.

When you’re an expecting mom or a first-time mom, everyone has their opinion. You mom, your neighbor, and the lady in the grocery store line will probably make some comment on the best way parent or a tip that worked for them. Honestly, I could probably offer a hundred different things I think a new mom should know, but that would be long and let’s be honest, my child is hanging off my leg as I type this. I’m going to keep this short and sweet and offer the 15 most important things I feel are very important.

  1. Wear fitted clothes – your bump is beautiful and looks better without the excess clothing. Trust me, you will at one point or another remanence on that bump.
  2. Save the gift receipts from you baby shower. There will be so many things you exchange once your baby is here and you realize you don’t need. For me, the first two that come to mind are a bottle warmer and diaper pail.
  3. Your water doesn’t always gush (like you see in the movies) to indicate you are in labor.
  4. Push from your butt!!
  5. You can have a plan for delivery or feeding, but don’t stress about it. Remember fed is best.
  6. There will be diaper blowouts. Always carry extra clothes.
  7. Never judge a parent bribing with food or screen time. You will be there one day.
  8. Be prepared to cry looking back at pictures of them as a tiny infant.
  9. Write milestones down in a baby book. Before you know it, a lot of memories jumble together.
  10. Planning quick errands are a past memory. Errands are twice as long, sometimes more.
  11. It’s hard, but don’t compare your baby to another baby and please stay off online searching. Both will make you go crazy.
  12. You’ll forget what life was like before a child.
  13. Never judge the way another parent disciplines or parents. Some people might have the same thought about you.
  14. You might go back to work, and you might decide to stay home, either one is perfectly fine for you and your baby. Don’t let other people cloud your opinions.

Don’t forget about yourself. You are doing a great job. Yes, you might find yourself crying that your house is a mess, you haven’t slept or life if just hard at the moment, but you’re doing a great job. You are not the perfect mom, but you are the perfect mom for your little angel.

What other words of advice would you share with new mamas? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!
