What to Wear for Family Photos

Hi y’all, Happy Wednesday!

Deciding what to wear in Family Pictures can be a daunting task. What colors to wear? How can we coordinate, but not be 90’s denim matchy-matchy? I’ve got some great tips to think about, and throughout the post, links to ideas to help you on your way to get fabulous family pictures! As a new mom, this is going to be our first year to take family Christmas pictures. As much as I wish I could go shopping all day to find the perfect family outfits, lets be real….I have about 3-4 hours between pumping, diapers to change, a baby to feed, etc. If I can find everything I need at one or two stores, I’m happy. Since I’m happy shopping this way, I’ve made these inspiration boards off only having to shop at one or two stores. [you’re welcome! :)]

Here are three little family outfit looks including girls and boys that I love together if you are in need of a little inspiration.

Tip 1: Ultimately, your family photos should represent you and your family. If you guys are formal/dressy, use that for inspiration; if you are super casual, use that. My family is somewhere in between. We both like outfits that can be worn to work, Church, or to dinner without having to change.

Women’s Dress | Baby Girl’s Plaid Dress | Baby Boy’s 2 Piece Set | Toddler Girl’s Sweater | Toddler Girl’s Skirt | Men’s Sweater

Tip 2: Accessories should be understated and simple. You want to look back at these photos and see your family, not the light up Christmas bulb earrings you thought would make a pop. Simple silver and/or gold jewelry will work great. If you’re wanting a pop of color, a red lip is great and is flattering on almost anyone.

Women’s Dress | Baby Boy’s Navy Sweater | Baby  Girl’s Ivory Dress | Baby Girl’s Greg Tutu Dress | Baby Boy’s Grey Onesie | Men’s Blazer

Tip 3: In Houston, we don’t have to worry about it being too cold most of the time, but if you need an extra layer, pair these outfits with tights, scarfs and boots or booties.

Women’s Velvet Dress | Baby Girl’s Long Sleeve Velvet Dress | Baby Boy’s Corduroy Overalls | Baby Girl’s Velvet Tulle Dress | Baby Girl’s Drop Waist Velvet Dress | Men’s Plaid Button Down

Tip 4: Choose props that will help your family interact for natural, candid photos.  So bring along a book to read to the baby, a game to lay out and play with the kids, or a picnic to enjoy together.

I hope these helped! PS: One of these boards will be the theme for our family photos. Any guesses?!

Thank you so much for reading!

XOXO, Katelyn

Newborn + New Mom Essentials

The idea for this post came when I realized that I could have really used a post like this. As a new mom, you Google EVERYTHING. Every mom is different, just like every baby is different so some of these items might not be useful for you. As Ava will be 9 weeks on Friday, we have already purchased and exchanged a dozen items we purchased for her, so I figured I would share what works best for us. These are really just items we have used her first two months, so it won’t necessarily cover things like spoons and sippy cups. Lastly, this is also purely opinion!

Motherhood: Month 2

First of all, how in the heck is my baby 2 months old?! Little Ava Grace truly is the sweetest thing and we fall more in love with her every single day. I can’t believe I’ve been a momma for over 2 months now! Time is flying and this is the trickiest and tiring, yet most rewarding job I’ve ever had. Sean and I are getting SO excited for her first Christmas. The holidays are so special to us and we can’t wait to start new memories with Ava.

38 Week Bump Date & Baby’s Hospital Bag

I can already hear the responses, “Hang in there! She will come when she’s ready,” “The average first pregnancy last 41+ weeks,” “She will be here before you know it,” “You’re only 38 weeks; the longer she’s in there the better off she’ll be.”

I get this. I do. I just want to hear, “Katelyn, you are having a baby right now!”

36 Week Bump Date

Bath Tub | Spout Cover | Bottle Sterilizer | Burp Clothes | Changing Pad Liners | Diaper Pail | Drying Rack | Swaddle Blankets

We’re in the home stretch and it’s INSANE to think that we have just about three weeks left (I’m 36 weeks and 4 days) to go before we meet our little one.  Most everything is wrapped up and we’re just focusing on resting, preparing, and taking in these last few weeks of the bump.

34 Week Bump Date

34 weeks down, 6 (ish) to go! With only six weeks left, I am trying to get as organized as possible. We semi-tackled  her nursery this past weekend. We put together her crib, dresser, chair and started putting up decorations. My dad is coming over this weekend to paint her little room. I can’t wait to show you guys a sneak peak once that’s finished.

The next two weeks are packed as we celebrate our first anniversary [eek!!!!] and Sean’s birthday. After that, the true countdown is on. I’ve only done one previous bump date before, but you can read it here.

Pregnancy Must-Haves

Happy Monday Friends! It’s a quiet morning in our household as we wait for the pest control people to arrive (#homeownerprobs). I can’t believe I am already 32 weeks pregnant…time is winding down fast, I wanted to share some of my favorite items I’ve used throughout my pregnancy. There haven’t been a ton of things I’ve felt that I absolutely NEEDED during this pregnancy. I’ve managed to make non-maternity clothes fit for a long time and I really didn’t have much morning sickness. However, here’s the list of items that I have found myself reaching for again and again in the past eight months.
